Newscyber.id l Jakarta Global tensions with Russia over the unending war in Ukraine are said to have sparked the potential for World War 3. Various countries in Europe are now starting to prepare their militaries accordingly.

Germany, for instance, has been urged to activate 900,000 reserve troops by Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, a member of parliament from the liberal FDP party and chair of the Defense Committee in the Bundestag.

Strack-Zimmermann pushed for this action because she believes "the Russian attack on us has begun." She said Moscow is fully prepared for war, and it is time for Germany to be ready to face any threat from the east.

The parliamentarian added that the Russian attack on Germany had already started, referring to Russia's alleged hybrid warfare against various European countries, involving tactics such as cyberattacks and manipulating refugee crises.

"Putin is preparing his people for war and positioning them against the West. Therefore, we must be able to defend ourselves as soon as possible," she told the Funke Media Group newspaper, as quoted by Express on Monday (06/03/2024).

She also called for the activation of Germany's reserve forces. "If we can recruit half of them with the appropriate skills as reserves, that would be an incredible asset," she said.

Strack-Zimmermann stated that her country has about 900,000 reserve troops, although the German Armed Forces, Bundeswehr, have not registered soldiers retiring from active duty for several decades.

Meanwhile, Russia has reportedly threatened to wipe out the UK's nuclear arsenal in a day. This claim was made by a military expert from Moscow, Yuri Baranchik.

Baranchik detailed Russia's strategy in 'Operation Unthinkable' if the conflict in Ukraine escalates into a nuclear war. "In one day, we carry out Operation Unthinkable. We eliminate the nuclear capabilities of the UK and France," he said.

According to him, this strategy would serve two purposes: Putin would strip Europe of its military-geopolitical status and reduce the number of nuclear powers in the world from nine to seven.

The expert claimed that this action would "remove the nuclear fangs of the UK and France, thus NATO would no longer have blackmail leverage in the European theater of operations."

Baranchik, who is also a leading nuclear expert closely associated with Kremlin circles, made troubling statements about the UK's nuclear arsenal, asserting that it could be neutralized relatively easily.

He believes that neutralizing the UK and France and removing their nuclear capabilities would radically redefine the European security landscape while stripping them of their status as nuclear powers.

He added that NATO would only have tactical nuclear weapons and those of the United States left in Europe, but their use would mean the destruction of America, a risk they would never take.

On the other hand, Dmitry Medvedev, a senior Kremlin official and former president and prime minister of Russia, has stated that Putin is not bluffing when it comes to nuclear war threats.

The Putin regime is also reportedly investing in mobile nuclear shelters worth £330,000 (Rp6.8 billion) for major cities, designed to protect key individuals in the event of a catastrophic war.
